Molinaro Commends Decision For One ESDC Chair

Assemblyman Marc Molinaro (R,C,I-Tivoli) today commended Governor David Paterson for his decision to unify the chairmanship of the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC).

“Having one Empire State Development Corporation chairman for the entire state will reduce competition for resources, and eliminate conflicts and confusion, while allowing the agency to focus on the economic needs throughout the entire state. Our state contains diverse regions with unique, specific needs, but having two co-chairmen for ESDC does nothing
but highlight the regional divide between upstate and downstate. Furthermore, consolidating to one position will save taxpayer money,” said Molinaro.

Molinaro urged this very course of action in his March letter to the governor. At that time, the Assemblyman recommended the appointment of current Upstate ESDC Chair Dan Gundersen as sole chairman due to his
“extensive credibility.”

“The State of New York must work to strengthen the economic vitality  of all its regions, by listening to and coordinating with those on the frontlines of economic development in the towns, villages, cities and counties statewide. We are /all/ responsible for building a robust and vibrant economy throughout the Empire State,” wrote Molinaro.

The Hudson Valley Assemblyman concluded that he will continue working with the governor and the ESDC to rebuild New York, making it a more attractive state for businesses and their employees.
