Williams Appointed City Court Judge
Councilwoman Cindy Holmes, Councilwoman Karen Mejia; Deputy Mayor Regina Angelo, Judge Eddie Williams, Mayor Judy Kennedy, Councilwoman Genie Abrams, and Councilwoman Gay Lee.
NEWBURGH - In their first action of 2014, the new City Council appointed Eddie Loren Williams, Esq. as City Court Judge. Judge Williams will serve a 10 year term, replacing the Hon. B. Harold Ramsey who retired.
Judge Williams, a Newburgh resident, is a graduate of the University at Albany and earned his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School of Union University. Most recently, he served as Trial Attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, and formerly as an Assistant District Attorney for the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
He was an Assigned Counsel for the Supreme Court Appellate Division and Associate Counsel to the New York State Assembly.
Mayor Judy Kennedy, who administered the oath of office, commented, “The City Council looks forward to working with Judge Williams as we continue to focus on reducing crime and making the City of Newburgh a safer place to live and work.”
Judge Williams said “I am looking forward to the challenges of the bench, particularly drug court. That programs provides a solid path to recovery for individuals struggling with addiction.”
Judge Williams also commented on his mentor Judge Ramsey; saying “ He was a trail blazer and an inspiration to me, I am honored to be following in his footsteps.”
