Albany - Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz (51st AD, Brooklyn) is pleased to see the United States Drug Enforcement Administration extended their ban on the five chemicals used in synthetic cannabinoid such as ‘K2’ or ‘Spice’.
As Chair of the New York State Assembly Mental Health Committee and previous Chair of the NYS Assembly Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Committee, Assemblyman Ortiz has been a champion in prohibiting illegal substance such as synthetic marijuana.
“There is no doubt in my mind that we are in the midst of a deadly plague impacting our youth,” Ortiz states. “Dozens of young people looking for a quick high are winding up in emergency rooms with symptoms ranging from hallucinations to panic attacks.”
Assemblyman Ortiz is working to ensure that not only products such as ‘K2’ or ‘Spice’ are off the shelves in stores around New York State but also to educate teenagers and young adults about the dangerous side effect of these products. |
