Peekskill - For the first time in it’s 117 year history, Mount Olivet Baptist Church (MOBC) will skip Sunday service in order to be of Sunday service to the greater Peekskill community. Faith in Action, a unique MOBC initiative designed to impact the community in a positive way, will take place on Sunday, July 25th when volunteers of all ages and races unite to lend a helping hand.
"We’re excited that for the first time in the history of the church we’ll be closed to do the true calling of the church, which is reaching out and doing missions," says Rev. Dr. Adolphus C. Lacey, pastor of Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
Over 100 volunteers are expected to participate in community service projects such as picking up litter and painting. Gift baskets will also be prepared and delivered to the sick or homebound.
While MOBC is spearheading Faith In Action, local organizations that are partnering in the effort include CHOP- Jan Peek Shelter, the Preservation Company, and Support Connection.
Similarly, while members of MOBC are taking the lead in this initiative, everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to participate. The goal is for this to be the first in a series of Faith In Action days that will have a positive impact on Peekskill and the surrounding communities.
So even though the doors of the church will be closed on July 25th, don’t get confused. Faith in Action is definitely not a day off... it is a day ON!
