* Update: Now Sold Out! The nonprofit group Walkway Over the Hudson is currently selling a limited number of wristbands to people wanting to get the best view of the City of Poughkeepsie’s July 4th Fireworks Spectacular. Wristbands must be purchased in advance and are required of anyone over 5 years old.
The Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park will close to the public at 5 p.m. and then re-open at 7 p.m. for those possessing valid wristbands. The fireworks display is expected to begin at 9:15 p.m. If the event is postponed due to inclement weather, it will be re-scheduled for Monday, July 5th.

* The West Point Band will celebrate the nation’s birth with a concert featuring the Hellcats, Jazz Knights, and Concert Band. The concert is free to the public at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 3rd with an inclement weather date of Sunday, July 4th at historic Trophy Point Amphitheatre.
A pre-concert will begin with the Jazz Knights performing music from the Great American Songbook.
The concert band will take the stage following the Jazz Knights’ performance for a program featuring the music of famed American composer John Williams. Staff Sergeant Nathan Turner will play his own arrangement of Chopsticks for tuba and concert band. The concert will conclude with the concert band’s traditional performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture featuring fireworks and live cannon fire.

* Need somewhere to watch Newburgh’s fireworks on July 4th? Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site is the perfect location to view the city’s display. Located at Liberty and Washington Streets, you’re sure to enjoy all the pleasure the pyrotechnic event can bring, with the Hudson River breezes cooling the evening air and the majestic Hudson Highlands as a backdrop.
At dusk, the fireworks will burst in the air over the river. Washington’s Headquarters affords an unobstructed view of all the color, light and excitement. The gates of Washington’s Headquarters will stay open until the fireworks conclude. Bring a chair or blanket.

* Town of Newburgh: The Town of Newburgh presents its 2010 Community Day at Algonquin Park/Cronomer Hill Park, on Gardnertown Road, from 6-10 p.m. Friday. Music will be provided by the Massachusetts Air National Guard Band, Cupe'ro and DJ Eric Santana, plus there will be fire company displays, food, games and fireworks. * Middletown: Middletown hosts its annual "Stars and Stripes Celebration" at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fancher-Davidge Park, off Lake Avenue. * Cornwall: The Town of Cornwall will kick off its Fourth of July festivities at 9 a.m. Sunday at Town Hall, 183 Main St., with a doggie costume contest. At 5 p.m., the parade starts at Lafayette Street, and there will be a historical pageant at 6 p.m. Music will be provided and vendors will be selling their wares all day.
