Red Cross Opens Shelter in Kerhonkson

Kerhonkson - The American Red Cross-Ulster County Chapter has opened an overnight shelter to assist residents affected by the widespread power outage.

A shelter is now will open at the Kerhonkson Fire Department, 333 Main Street in Kerhonkson.

The Red Cross is working closely with local government officials to determine if more shelters may need to open to meet community needs.

Residents should call the Red Cross at (845) 338-7020 for more information.

The Red Cross will provide food, beverages and a safe place to sleep for storm victims. People coming to the shelter should bring:

·         Bedding for each member of the family (although the Red Cross has some bedding available, we are asking people coming to the shelter to bring their own bedding to ensure we can give comfort to as many people as possible)

·         Diapers and formula for children

·         Prescription medicines

·         Toiletries

·         Food for special dietary needs

·         Please note that the only animals permitted in Red Cross shelters are service animals; for safety and health reasons, we can not accommodate pets.
