Hudson Valley Snow Storm

Goshen - Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana and the Orange County Department of Emergency Services are continuing to closely monitor the winter weather event as advertised by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Upton, New York. 


“We are now under a declared state of emergency which will allow our emergency services personnel and highway crews to respond to this severe weather event,” Diana said. “Diana stated.  “Our Emergency Operations Center is currently open on a level 4 limited activation and will remain so throughout the duration of this storm to coordinate assistance to the county’s emergency service agencies and municipalities if necessary.” 


Based upon the latest forecast information received directly from the NWS this afternoon, Orange County residents may experience
snowfall in the neighborhood of 12-18 inches and wind gusts of up to 30mph in the afternoon if the storm proceeds as forecasted, this may cause power outages. Residents are reminded to stay away from downed power lines.


The Orange County Emergency Services Center has logged 283 Motor vehicle weather related calls since 6 am. Traffic on most local roads has been limited. An Orange County Sheriffs Office car, private motor vehicle and a County snowplow truck were involved in a minor accident in the vicinity of Seven Springs Road and Mountain Road in the Town of Monroe. No injuries were reported. One downed power line has been reported in the Town of Cornwall near Orrs Mill Road.


As of this report 790 Central Hudson customers are currently without power and Orange & Rockland is reporting 10 customers with power outages


The Orange County Department of Public Works Public informational meeting for the rehabilitation of Kanawauke Road aka County Route 106 scheduled for 7pm tonight at the Overlook Lodge at Bear Mountain State Park has been cancelled.


The Orange County Airport is currently closed to general aviation.


The Orange County Legislature has cancelled legislative activities.


The Town of Deerpark has activated their Emergency Operations Center residents may call 845-856-E911(3911) for assistance.


The Orange County Department of Public Works is operating under standard severe weather protocols.


Tonight:
Snow. Low around 29. Blustery, with a north wind between 18 and 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Friday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 34. North wind between 13 and 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
