Taste Of Latin American Culture

Newburgh - The Downing Park Committee will present the second annual “Taste of Latin American Culture  Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month" on Sunday, September 20th  from 12noon – 6:00pm.

As part of the Downing Park Music Series - The taste of Latin Culture was initiated in 2008 by the Downing Park Committee,  the City of Newburgh, and Jubilee Multi-Cultural Arts as a way to celebrate the rich diversity of the city.  There are a number of growing Latinos from Latin, South America and the Caribbean.  The festival is a celebration of these cultures and a great way to spend a day in the park!  Local artist and entertainers are highlighted, in addition to the various business, organizations, food vendors, and crafts. Last years festival proved to be a wonderful event where families of all backgrounds enjoyed, music, food and fun.

The festival is in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th through October 15th.  There are at least 21 Latin American countries, so it’s a perfect opportunity to learn about other countries within our communities, according to Judy Battista of Jubilee Multi-Cultural Arts Presents, who also organizes other cultural events and activities throughout Orange County. "The goal of the festival is to celebrate our “Hispanidad”  but also to celebrate how American we are! The Latino community is not only from one country or background, it’s a collaborative of countries. Having an event to honor the variety of backgrounds within the Latino community and learning to appreciate one another is essential in having a cohesive united community.  And what better way to do that then to celebrate through the arts, music, dance, food, family."

Downing Park is a beautiful park designed by the architects of the New York City’s Central Park in the turn of the century.  The park is a little gem in the city of Newburgh.

Local Artists, Crafts, and Food Vendors, representing various countries as well as Community Organizations were sought to participate for this event:
