Fire Department develops guide for post fire victims

Newburgh - The fire trucks have gone. Water drips from everywhere. The smell of smoke hangs heavy in the air. Your home or apartment has been damaged by fire. Who do you turn to? What do you do now? Returning to normal after a fire or other disaster is imperative to you and your family. After the fire, there will be a number of things that you will have to do in order to restore services, make repairs and reoccupy your home.

The City of Newburgh Fire Department has developed a brochure called "After the Fire, Now What?" available in English and Spanish to help City of Newburgh residents who have been displaced by fire. It will show you the steps necessary to restore utility services, as well as guide you thru the necessary processes when making repairs to the structure. This brochure will provide residents with information that will enable them to begin the process of getting back to a life of normalcy following a fire or emergency.

For more information, contact the City of Newburgh Fire Prevention Bureau at 569-7406, or E-mail: fireprev@cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.
