Newburgh - On June 21st, the City of Newburgh Americorps VISTA volunteers sponsored a ‘clean sweep’ of Mill Street from Broadway to South William Street. Around 100 people participated throughout the day, including members of Centro Cultural. Even children were involved, painting flower pots and planting flowers.
Following the cleanup, a resource fair was held at Centro Cultural headquarters, 50 Mill Street. City of Newburgh Police installed free car seats, and Affinity Health Plan distributed information. A cook-out topped off the day.
Wal-Mart, Adams Fairacre Farms, Mount St. Mary College, Sal’s Contracting, Pete’s, Hudson Baylor and local Mill Street businesses contributed to make the event successful and fun for all.
The VISTA volunteers are planning another cleanup, this time on South Miller Street, for August 9th.
