YWCA Orange County Receives Excellence Award

Dara Heron-Richardson, YWCA USA CEO, presents to Darriyia Williams, Laura Garcia, and Executive Director Christine Sadowski, along with Paula Pennybaker.

NEWBURGH - YWCA Orange County Executive Director Christine Sadowski and YWCA Board President Glynis Cowart are pleased to announce that YWCA Orange County was honored with an Association Excellence Award at YWCA USA’s annual Women of Distinction awards gala for its work in support of the non-profit agency’s mission to empower women and eliminate racism.

"The Association Excellence Awards are our way of celebrating and honoring the vital contributions that YWCAs make to communities all across the country and to lift up those who do exemplary work," said YWCA USA CEO Dara Richardson-Heron, MD. "Their passion and commitment to improving the lives of women and their families is truly inspiring."

Each year, YWCA USA recognizes local associations for outstanding work in the areas of women’s empowerment, racial justice, and advocacy. The awards were presented at the YWCA USA annual conference in Washington DC. Sadowski and Cowart accepted the award from YWCA USA CEO Richardson-Heron.

"Our YWCA Orange County team works hard to support the YWCA mission to empower women and eliminate racism. From services and program development to advocacy and outreach, the mission is at the heart of all that we do," said Sadowski. "We are delighted to see that hard work and dedication recognized at the national level with an excellence award at the annual conference."

YWCA Orange County programs include non-traditional women’s work skills building seminars, wage negotiation training, a social justice film series, leadership development, and advocacy on a local, state, and federal level.

"Summer is off to an exciting start for YWCA Orange County," said board president Cowart. "In addition to receiving the Excellence Award at the national conference, our YWCA was one of just six YWCAs to receive a grant of $30,000 for women’s economic empowerment programs, and our Executive Director Christine Sadowski was a guest at the recent White House Summit on Working Families. I’m very proud of the work that our local team is accomplishing on behalf of the women and girls in our community," added Cowart.
