KINGSTON - Ulster County Executive Mike Hein presented former Boxing World Champion Tracy Harris Patterson with a Proclamation, which proclaimed April 3, 2014 as Tracy Harris Patterson Day throughout Ulster County. Tracy is a two-time Boxing World Champion and has held the WBC super bantamweight and IBF super featherweight titles during his boxing career. He holds a professional boxing record of 63-8-2 with 43 knock-outs. On March 30, 2014, Tracy was inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame along with his late father, World Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson.
"It is a privilege to proclaim April 3, 2014 as Tracy Harris Patterson Day in Ulster County but it’s an even greater honor to call him my friend," said County Executive Hein. "Tracy and I go back a long way, having both grown up together in New Paltz. He has had an outstanding boxing career and continues to be an extraordinary role model. In his retirement, Tracy carries on the mission of his father Floyd by working with the youth of our community and impacting the lives of so many. He has built a championship legacy both in and out of the ring and we are proud that he and his amazing wife Connie choose to call Ulster County their home."
"It was a great honor to be inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame with my father, Floyd Patterson," said Tracy Harris Patterson. "It is also a special privilege to be recognized by the community where I grew up and I want to thank County Executive Hein for this Proclamation. Mike and I have been close personal friends a long time and have great respect each other’s accomplishments and we both realize how important it is to give back to our community."
Tracy Harris Patterson has been a resident of New Paltz for over forty years and continues to promote health and fitness by training others in the community.
