Black History Month Commemorated

Councilman Cedric Brown, Deputy Mayor Regina Angelo, Councilwoman Gay Lee, Aquiala A. Walden, Mayor Judy Kennedy, Vanessa Cheatham, Councilwoman Cindy Holmes, Councilwoman Genie Abrams, and Councilwoman Karen Mejia.

NEWBURGH - In honor of Black History Month, Vanessa Cheatham, a senior at Newburgh Free Academy( NFA) and winner of the Senator William Larkin 2014 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest read her essay at the Feb. 24 City Council meeting. Aquiala A. Walden, also a student at NFA, sang "Lift Every Voice and Sing," (also known as the Black National Anthem), which she also performed at the Black History Month celebration at NFA. Both students were given certificates of recognition signed by the Mayor and Council members.
