AKA's Celebrates Pink Goes Red for a Day

Thirty members of the Iota Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha participated in their Pink Goes Red for a Day celebration this month as part of National Wear Red Day.

HUDSON VALLEY – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated - Iota Alpha Omega Chapter celebrated our Pink Goes Red for a day program this month. Thirty (30) Chapter members participated adorned in RED. Each member received the red dress pin, symbol of National Wear Red Day ~ American Heart Association Go Red for Women. For this celebration, the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated – Iota Alpha Omega Chapter prepared and donated healthy dishes and/or beverages. We were encouraged to look for the American Heart Association approved logo on all food and beverage purchases. We feasted on the following healthy foods, snacks and/or beverages:

•Pomegranate, Cranberry, Apple and Grape Juice

•Green Tea

•Fruit Salad

•Kale and Strawberry Salad

•Jell-O

•Dry roasted nuts

•Trail Mix

•Vegetable Platter

•Vegetarian chili

•Tuna salad on whole wheat crackers

•Hummus with Pita chips and Skillet Apples

With our very own doctor in our midst, Dr. Regina Sexton-Smith, DO, presented "Heart Disease and Women of Color". She discussed the following "Go Red Facts" with the Chapter.

A donation from our Chapter was made to the American Heart Association.
