Goldback Family Day

NEWBURGH – On Saturday, November 30, 2013, the Newburgh Free Academy Boys Varsity Basketball Team hosted its first annual “Goldback Family Day”. The event was created by Varsity Basketball Coach Matt Brown along with his staff of Mike Paz and Tom Reynolds. The event was held to kick off the start of the basketball season and promote parental involvement, family awareness, and student achievement. The purpose of the event was to promote parental involvement and foster relationships between players, coaches, parents, family members and the community, to achieve academic and athletic success. Coach Brown believes that parental support and community involvement are very important for the student athletes to be successful.

There were over 25 parents and family members who attended along with members of the Varsity Basketball team. Parents and families were invited to attend a morning session practice and after were invited to a catered lunch from Noto’s Deli hosted by the coaches and the Newburgh Basketball Booster President Josh Mousseau. The event also included a meeting to discuss and implement ways to raise student achievement for members of this year’s Varsity Basketball team.
