NRC Mobilizes to Help People of the Philippines

Newburgh - The massive typhoon that slammed into the Philippines, causing thousands of deaths and destroying entire cities and villages, was just the beginning.  There are catastrophic food and water shortages and problems in the delivery of aid continue to worsen.

On the other side of the globe, the Newburgh Express, the relief effort of the Newburgh Rowing Club, is collecting baby clothes, summer clothing, dry goods, tents, first aid, and other needed supplies, which will be shipped to the Philippines for free, thanks to RDR Cargo Express, said Programs Director Coach Ed Kennedy.

“We packed the trailer for Hurricane Sandy and we will now be taking in collections for the people of the Philippines,” said Coach Ed Kennedy.  “This is what we do anyway but we particularly want to do it because our Team Mom, Mrs. Lo, has relatives in the Philippines.”

Rommel Vel Rosario, who owns RDR Cargo Express, a shipping business, has turned it into a collection center for clothes, food and medical supplies. He’s shipping them for free to relief organizations in the Philippines.

“I have to do something. I have to contribute.  Nobody has any excuse,” said Rosario.

“We want to do all we can to help RDR Cargo Express,” said Team Mom Juliana LoBiondo.  “The main dropoff point is in Bergenfield, NJ, and the Newburgh Rowing Club will be delivering to NJ.  You may also drop off the following goods at LoBiondo Law Offices, 36 North Plank Road, Monday to Friday 9 am - 5 pm, and the rowers will take the items to RDR’s dropoff point. Starting November 20th, you may also dropoff items at the Newburgh Rowing Club Boathouse, during practice hours Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 6 - 7:30 pm.  The deadline is November 29th, Newburgh Rowing will be delivering to Bergenfield, NJ on November 30th.”

“This natural disaster has been devastating, just devastating,” said Team Mom LoBiondo.  “People are still missing.  There is no electricity or water or food in the places RDR is delivering to.  No shelter either, which is why one of the requests is for tents.  We appreciate any help we can get.”

“Our company owns a cargo and container ship, and we will be shipping a container with donations for free, that is our donation,” said Del Rosario.
