Safe Homes raises $35,000 at awards dinner



At the annual awards dinner, Safe Homes’ executive director, Kellyann Kostyal-Larrier (center), is joined by the agency’s 2013 honorees, Loretta Breedveld, Heather Yakin, Sara Knight and Dr. Dean Scher.

NEWBURGH - Safe Homes of Orange County’s annual fundraising and awards dinner held on October 17th gathered 175 friends and supporters and raised $35,000 for the agency’s comprehensive services for domestic violence survivors and public education programs.

One of the agency’s many events in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, this year’s Celebration of Hope Dinner honored Dr. Dean Scher, COO and Executive Director, Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange County; Heather Yakin, reporter with The Times Herald-Record; Sara Knight, Safe Homes volunteer; and Loretta Breedveld, owner and innkeeper of the Warwick Valley Bed & Breakfast.

"There are times when true magic happens, and this year’s Celebration of Hope was a night filled with laughter, tears, new beginnings and a shared sense of gratitude for the support and friendship of the community," said Kellyann Kostyal-Larrier, Safe Homes’ executive director.

Phillips, II, District Attorney; NYS Assemblyman James Skoufis; Orange County Legislators Leigh J. Benton and Roxanne Donnery; County Sheriff Carl E. DuBois; Steve Neuhaus, Supervisor for the Town of Chester; Chester Attorney, David Hoovler; Robert A. Onofry, Orange County Supreme Court Justice; John K. McGuirk, retired NYS Supreme Court Justice; and Daniel Angiolillo, Associate Justice, Appellate Division, NYS Supreme Court.
