NEWBURGH - More than a year ago, the City of Newburgh adopted a temporary worker program hiring local young adults through programs like the Department of Labor’s Youth Advocacy Program and the Department of Labor’s Youth Employment Program. To date, five temporary employees have been promoted to full time positions.
City of Newburgh DPW Superintendent George Garrison introduced Tyrell George and Dechean Rankine, whose positions are funded through CDBG, to Councilwoman Gay Lee, Councilman Curlie Dillard, and Interim City Manager James Slaughter, who visited DPW on Friday, August 23, 2013.
"This program is a wonderful opportunity for Newburgh residents to prove their willingness to work hard and be promoted within the department," said Garrison.
Gay Lee added, "I am very proud of all of them, and of Community Development Director Courtney Kain and George Garrison, who helped make this possible. I would like to see more City Departments take young people under their wing."
