GOSHEN – On behalf of Orange County Government employees, County Executive Edward A. Diana presented $2,005 in donations to the Lap4Life Foundation. The funds were raised from contributions by County employees who participated in two casual for a cause dress down Friday events held earlier this year.
Newburgh-based Lap4Life is a non-profit organization founded by Maddalena Casabianca-Reade in honor of her brother Dr. Angelo Casabianca to raise money and awareness for Desmoid tumor and organ transplant research. Their primary fundraiser is a four-mile run/walk race event around Chadwick Lake in the Town of Newburgh. County Executive Diana joined Casabianca-Reade in welcoming participants to the 5th annual Lap4Life event in June and started off the runners. Orange County Government employees also fielded a Healthy Orange team to participate in the walk.
"I’m very proud of the generosity of our County employees," said Diana. "They step up again and again to support the many not-for-profit organizations that serve our community. I was especially touched that County employees embraced an organization whose mission has become especially meaningful to me as I go through the organ transplant process myself. Maddalena and everyone at Lap4Life have been very supportive of me and my family. I applaud their efforts to promote Desmoid tumor research and organ donor registry and transplant research."
In addition to the funds raised through the employee dress down days, Diana’s family and friends created "Team Eddie" to participate in Lap4Life and raise money for the organization. Daughter Danielle Diana Smith presented Lap4Life with an additional donation of $200.
"It is an honor to have such wonderful support of Lap4Life from County Executive Diana, his family, and County employees," said Casabianca-Reade. "Not only are they helping us raise much-needed funds, they are helping us spread the word about the importance of organ donor registration and promote research efforts for Desmoid tumors and organ transplants. We wish Mr. Diana all the best as he awaits his new liver and hope for a speedy recovery so that he can join us again next year to welcome participants to our 2014 Lap4Life event,"
Orange County senior public health educator Heidi Meehan, who organized the County’s team participation in Lap4Life, Lap4Life committee volunteer Kelly Rauschenbach, and Lap4Life board vice president Paul Fritz joined County Executive Diana and his daughter Danielle to present the donations to Casabianca-Reade.
