NEWBURGH - "America, you’re looking good... handsome, free, and tall." Those words held more weight than usual recently, as the citizens of the City of Newburgh came out to witness the annual Memorial Day Parade roll through town on the morning of Monday, May 27, 2013.
As is the case every year, the turnout for the parade was tremendous. The busy sidewalks were filled up and down Broadway for the patriotic presentation, which included every age group from small children to senior citizens. Many on hand waved homemade signs and banners as they offered their support to the marchers.
Of course, being Memorial Day, special tribute was paid to those who have served in our nation’s armed forces. Veterans from the Air Force, Navy, National Guard, Army and Marines were all represented at the event, and received a rousing ovation from those in attendance as they marched proudly down Broadway. Onlookers thanked the soldiers for their service and courage in defending our way of life. It was a proud day for freedom.
