FISHKILL - In times of economic uncertainty, one thing’s for sure; families can have a decent meal. On Friday, May 17, 2013 New Vision Church, located at 831 Route 52, Fishkill, distributed over 26,000 lbs of food to the community and surrounding areas.
Families travelled from as far south as the Bronx and as far north as New Paltz to receive food. With over forty volunteers, New Vision Church was able to service a little over 5,000 people. Steve Swyryt, Special Projects Coordinator for the Hudson Valley Food Bank, said this was the largest food order ever.
Edward Benson, Pastor of New Vision, believes it is the church’s responsibility to meet not only the spiritual needs of the family, but assist in meeting their social needs as well.
With that in mind, New Vision Church houses an accredited bible college and seminary offering degrees ranging from certificates to doctorate degrees, an afterschool and summer day camp program as well as a summer feeding program consisting of nine sites.
New Vision’s food van, comes to Newburgh on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. as part of their Kids R Kids feeding program. They also provide job skill training, assistance to families of domestic violence and Christen counseling to individuals and families.
