Rebuilding Together preps for National Rebuilding Day

A Rebuilding Together volunteer works to help keep a homeowner warm, safe, and dry during National Rebuilding Day 2011. This year’s National Rebuilding Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013.

POUGHKEEPSIE – Rebuilding Together Dutchess County, an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, a national housing organization that rehabilitates homes and revitalizes communities to make them safe and healthy, and its sponsors are getting ready for Rebuilding Together’s signature event, National Rebuilding Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013.

Rebuilding Together Dutchess County (RTDC), with the help of supporters and their sponsorship volunteer teams including Arlington Teachers Association, Central Hudson, Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, Hyde Park United Methodist Church, Meyer Contracting Corp, Peak Construction, Poughquag United Methodist Church, Sholes and Miller, TD Charitable Foundation and Walden Savings Bank, RTDC is slated to rehabilitate 8 homes on National Rebuilding Day. This year they will be helping homeowners including a disabled Vietnam War veteran, a single mother caring for her two disabled adult children, a disabled single father, and an elderly couple with decreased mobility. Repairs will include roofing repairs, installation of gutters, replacing ineffective doors and windows, repairing drywall, installing bathroom fans for improved ventilation, installing grab bars and handrails for increased safety and mobility, painting, flooring repairs, electrical repairs and fixing faulty plumbing.

"We believe that everyone deserves a safe and healthy home," said Executive Director Christina Boryk. "With our volunteer and sponsorship teams we are able to serve eight homeowners in need return to a warm safe and dry environment.

The Dutchess County Rebuilding Together affiliate is one of nearly 200 throughout the country who mobilize thousands of volunteers annually to help repair and renovate homes of some of our country’s most vulnerable residents including the elderly, families with children, and our veterans at no cost to those served.

National Rebuilding Day occurs every year on the last Saturday in April. It is the culmination of a year’s worth of planning, volunteer recruitment and sponsorship partnership to change hundreds of homeowners’ lives across the country. Rebuilding Together affiliates nationwide will instill newly restored hope and memories in communities as numerous rehabilitations occur on a single day to create high-impact momentum for the rest of the year.

Rebuilding Together Dutchess County brings volunteers and communities together to revitalize homes, assuring that qualified homeowners can live independently in a warm, safe and dry environment.
