NEWBURGH - The last special Orange County Gun Buyback event in the City of Newburgh is Saturday, March 16 at Street Rock Ministries, 60 Dubois Street, from 10 am - 4 pm. To date, more than 110 guns have been turned in to City of Newburgh Police Department in exchange for Shop-Rite gift cards.
This third high profile event is made possible by the Greater Newburgh Partnership which sponsored the staffing costs of the City of Newburgh Police Department for all the special gun buyback days as well as the advertising, and Pastor Nelson Polanco, who offered Street Rock Ministries to host this additional event.
County-wide the "Save a Life" program has been extremely successful, and it is expected the total guns collected will exceed those collected in two previous programs in 2007 and 2010. The City of Newburgh has already surpassed their 2010 totals.
"GNP is so pleased to work with the City of Newburgh, Orange County, and ShopRite to get guns off the streets of Newburgh," said GNP Executive Director Sue Sullivan. "Making our city safer is paramount to all of us."
"Save a Life" will run through March 18, 2013, and in addition to the special drop-off event, guns may be turned into the City of Newburgh Police Department at the front desk. Or, you may call Lt. Pete Leach directly at (845) 569-7532 to arrange for pickup.
