NEW WINDSOR - On February 16, 2013, Victor Santiago, III, a junior at NFA High School, was recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor in Vails Gate, NY, for receiving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve. For his community project, Victor, with help from his troop, friends and community raised funds and managed over 333 man hours in order to build and deliver three outdoor trash receptacles to the Museum of the Hudson Highlands in Cornwall. Victor, a member of New Windsor Troop 4028, chartered by the King of Kings Lutheran Church, is also a member of the NFA Varsity Crew Team.

During the ceremony, Scout Master Ed Howard presented Santiago with a U.S. Flag which had flown over the Pentagon in Washington in Victor Santiago’s honor.

Guests who spoke on behalf of Santiago included NYS Assemblyman James Skoufis, Town of New Windsor Councilmember Pat Mullarkey, County Legislator Christopher Eachus, and Sheriff Carl DuBois, who presented Santiago with a Sheriff’s Gold Star.

Santiago’s uncle, U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Jamie Santiago, presented his nephew with a very special U.S. Air Force Airman coin.

"This journey, from Cub Scout to Eagle Scout, took me 10 years. It is an incredible honor. I could never have gotten here without the help of so many people, too many to thank but I especially wish to thank my parents, both of whom are very involved in scouting. My sister, Stephanie, a junior at St. Rose College, was a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient. All eyes are now on my younger sister, Samantha, who will be starting to work toward her Girl Scout Silver Award. Scouting is definitely a family affair for us."
