WEST POINT - Under the tutelage of the new Diversity Officer, MAJ Betty Myrthil, the Diversity Admissions team at West Point conducted an Orientation/Visitation Program from November 15-18, 2012. Over the three days, top diversity candidates were escorted by Fourth Class Cadets and Outreach Officers.
Using funds from the AOG Orientation/Visit endowment, the Diversity Admissions team was able to bring 15 diversity candidates to visit West Point. This program helps to educate parents and candidates, and alleviates concerns and common misconceptions about West Point and the Army. The Orientation/Visitation Program continues to be a tremendous asset in recruiting diversity candidates to attend USMA and USMAPS. Between 2007 and 2011, over eighty-five percent of the diversity candidates that had the opportunity to visit West Point through the Program, when offered admission to the Academy, choose West Point.
