NEWBURGH - The owners of Ruthie’s Country Style Restaurant were honored to host an Appreciation Dinner in honor of 2012 Olympian Samyr Laine on November 25, 2012.
At the dinner, which was organized and planned by a committee, Laine was presented with a Distinctive Service Award by City of Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy and City Council member Curlie Dillard. The President of the Newburgh Board of Education, Dawn Fucheck, presented Laine with a Newburgh Board of Education Proclamation celebrating his education and athletic achievements. Newburgh Board of Education members Philip Howard and Edward Lawson were also in attendance.
Laine also received recognition from the Orange County Minority Legislature when former County Legislature Noll Spencer presented him with an Orange County Proclamation at the close of the presentations.
Other attendees at the event included NAACP President Chet Johnson, Ruth Perkins (Pops, Pets, and Pals Club member) and several of Samyr Laine’s family and friends.
