NEWBURGH - The NFA Varsity Crew Team and the Student Ambassadors of the Newburgh Rowing Club attended the Veterans Day Service held at the Orange County Veterans Memorial in the City of Newburgh.
David McTamaney and Ian Berkowitz, themselves Vietnam Veterans, organized the event along with the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America and other veterans organizations.
City of Newburgh Mayor Judith Kennedy gave a very moving speech about her experience as the daughter of a P.O.W., and the memories of her father being taken behind enemy lines during World War II. She and several other speakers spoke of the need to take care of our veterans when they get home, and of what it is like to live with a loved one who has suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Said Ian Berkowitz, "It was great to have the young people of the NFA Varsity Crew Team and the Rowing Club here. It meant a lot to our veterans to see those young rowers all come out, in uniform."
