Nora Cronin students observe 31st International Day of Peace

NEWBURGH - On Friday, September 21, Nora Cronin Presentation Academy (NCPA) observed the 31st anniversary of the United Nations Resolution declaring an International Day of Peace.
This celebration of peace takes place each year parallel to the International Day of Prayer for Peace (IDPP), a day on which armed conflict is meant to be stilled, a day for cease-fires, a day on which all people are invited to come together and commit or reaffirm their commitment to non-violence and the peaceful resolution of their disputes.
NCPA students made the walk from the academy to Overlook Park, with its spectacular view eastward over the Hudson River and Mt. Beacon. The students formed into the shape of a cross, each end pointed directly North, South, East and West.
Prayers and biblical readings were spoken for each geographic pole as the cross of students rotated from point to point, on axis, just as the Earth. Special focus was given to wars in the Middle East, poverty and immigration concerns, the war on drugs, and natural disasters like forest fires and floods. After each interval the student sang the refrain: Pacem Pro Nobis (peace for us all).
When the students returned to back the academy, they participated in a inspirational art class exercise that helped to review what they had learned during the course of this very meaningful day.
