June 27th, 2012 Strawberry Festival at Beacon Riverfront Park
BEACON - The 2012 Beacon Sloop Club Annual Strawberry Festival was held on Sunday, June 10th at the Beacon Riverfront Park.
Members and friends of the all volunteer Beacon Sloop Club baked and served their traditional fresh strawberry shortcake, a homemade treat with local Hudson Valley berries, real whipped cream and freshly made biscuits from scratch.
In keeping with Beacon Sloop Club tradition, there was live music from the Earth Stage, powered by the club’s solar panel trailer, that entertained those on hand all afternoon and welcomed all to join in with their own voices.
This year entertainment included Dan Einbender and the Rivertown Kids, Jim Connor, Mark McNutt and the Offshoots Mara Lavine & Caroline Cutroneo, RJ Storm and Old School Driscoll and Smith, Mighty Girl.
Children’s activities included facepainting, candle stick making, Hoops by Judy, Nixi Travels (juggling with Lunastixs) was also taught throughout the afternoon. Volunteers have been busy all winter preparing the ferry sloop Woody Guthrie for the sailing season; guest sails of 45 minutes each were available during the festival. All sails on the Woody Guthrie were free.
Environmental displays, food vendors and arts and crafts, free sails on the Woody Guthrie, and homemade strawberry shortcake made the Beacon Sloop Club Strawberry Festival the perfect place to spend an afternoon. |
