Newburgh - From May 31st - June 4th, the H.M.S. Bounty will make a return visit to Newburgh Landing. The ship arrives late in the day on May 31st, and will be open for tours Friday-Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (H.M.S. Bounty is sponsoring the tours, not the City, and there are no advance ticket sales.)
Shoreside activities are being planned to complement the return of the famous privateer. The West Point Steel Band will give a free concert on Saturday, June 2nd from 5-6:30 p.m. and the Newburgh Rowing Club will have rowing demonstrations and contests on Sunday. Downing Film Center on Front Street is planning a screening of “Mutiny on the Bounty” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” (show times to be announced). Additionally, the City of Newburgh is seeking vendors and artists for Saturday & Sunday - please call 569-7354 or 565-5429 to participate.
The ship, built in Nova Scotia by Disney in 1960 for “Mutiny on the Bounty” with Marlon Brando, was in the 1989 film “Treasure Island” with Charlton Heston, was the “Black Pearl” in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, and appeared in several other films and dozens of TV shows & documentaries. |
