Newburgh - On Sunday, February 26th, Dr. Bruce Davis, Sr. was installed as the new pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Newburgh, NY.
The church was filled with hundreds of guests, including elected officials, clergy, and the Ebenezer Baptist Church family.
Rev. Byron Williams, the pastor of Baptist Temple Church as well as the president of the local NAACP branch, acted as Master of Ceremonies for the auspicious occasion.
For more than three hours, those gathered for the event were treated to Scripture Readings, prayers and musical selections by the Ebenezer Baptist Church Combined Choirs.
Rev. Ronald Grant, pastor, Shiloh Baptist Church, Hudson, NY, preached the installation sermon, which he titled "Celebrating the Arrival of a Trouble Maker." Grant said, "Whenever you are a trouble maker, God always makes sure the trouble maker has more power than the title holder." He used Moses as an example of a trouble maker and Pharaoh as the title holder, to great applause.
Dr. Paul Briggs offered the charge to Davis and Rev. Walter Hall, Jr. offered the charge to the Church, before Deacon Marion Campbell presented the church’s new pastor.
Davis was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Pastor William and Sister Luevell Harper. He is married to the former Sabrina Wells and is the father of three daughters, two sons and has 10 grandchildren.
Dr. Davis practically grew up in the church. At the young age of 12-years-old he served as a Junior Deacon. He later joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Long Beach, Mississippi, where he received his license to preach and was ordained in 1985.
Davis received his first pastoral assignment in 1988, in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he would serve for 14 years. Following his time in Gulfport, Davis served at New Testament Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for seven years. In 2007, Dr. Davis made his way to New Zion Baptist Church in Ogden, Utah, where he served the church for four years.
In assuming the position of Senior Pastor and Spiritual Leader of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Davis states, "[My] desire and vision for Ebenezer is to lead God’s people into the Promised Land by the aid of the Holy Spirit."
