Inspire Honors Doug Hovey and Kathy Fitzgerald

Inspire will be honoring Doug Hovey and Kathy Fitzgerald at its Shining Stars Celebration

Goshen  – On Saturday, November 22, 2008, at its Shining Stars Celebration, Inspire will honor Doug Hovey, Executive Director of Independent Living, for his outstanding service to people with disabilities and Kathy Fitzgerald, Provident Bank Vice President/Community Business Lending Officer, for her exemplary community service to Orange County.


As founding Exective Director of Independent Living, Inc., an organization employing over 200 people and serving 10,000 annually, Doug has long championed the cause of equal rights, access and opportunity for persons with disabilities. He holds graduate degrees in Health Care and Rehabilitation Administration, and is professionally and personally familiar with the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. With over 20 years of leadership experience in the field of disability related services, he was the recipient of the 1995 American Red Cross “Humanitarian of the Year” Award, 2006 “Senate Achievement” Award for the 39th Senate District, and currently serves as Treasurer for the New York Association of Independent Living (NYAIL). He also serves on the board of trustees for the St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh. He was also recently appointed as Vice Chairman of the Orange County Long Term Care Council. He is a member of Rotary International and the Newburgh Rotary Club. He was chairman of the New York State Independent Living Council (NYSILC) in 2004-2005. Doug resides in Gardiner, NY with his wife Ann, son Ryan and daughter Laura.


Kathy Fitzgerald, an Orange County native, has dedicated many years of community service to this community. She has been employed in the banking field for over 30 years, and is presently Vice President- Community Business Lending for Provident Bank. During her career she has volunteered many long hours to different organizations throughout the county, including Orange County United Way, the former Eastern Orange Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber’s Minority and Women Loan Committee, Inspire, The Newburgh YMCA, the American Heart Association, and Goshen Rotary Club. In 1999 she was the recipient of the Marion S. Murphy “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” Award, and she received the Chamber’s Board Member of the Year Award in 2005. Kathy resides in Campbell Hall, NY. She is a tireless community volunteer.


Inspire’s Shining Stars Celebration festivities, sponsored by Provident Bank, will include dinner and musical entertainment by Universal Mind, a band comprised of people of all abilities. Proceeds from Inspire’s Shining Stars Celebration will be invested in Inspire’s long-term endowment fund for future programs and services for people with disabilities.
