Harris – Catskill Regional Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing Unit is one of the recipients of “IPRO’s 2008 Quality Awards.”   The Quality Awards, given annually by IPRO, New York State ’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, recognize health care providers that demonstrate a commitment to improving health care services in the state.   The Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) at Catskill Regional Medical Center is a 64-bed live-in facility for long-term nursing home care and short-term rehabilitation.  Opened in 1980, SNU is dedicated to promoting the highest quality of life and best medical care in a homelike setting.

“ Catskill Regional Medical Center has shown that a collaborative, focused effort can lead to tangible improvements in the quality of care delivered to New York ’s Medicare beneficiaries,” says Clare B. Bradley MD, MPH, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, IPRO.  “Quality improvement is a complex and time-consuming process, and we thank Catskill Regional Medical Center for their commitment to the health of New Yorkers.”

In conferring the award at IPRO’s 24th Annual Membership Meeting in June, Dr. Bradley noted that Catskill Regional Medical Center ’s SNU received the award because of “their dedication to quality improvement as demonstrated by their implementation of a team-wide approach to clinical care processes and decision making.  They attained a relative improvement of greater than 50% in reducing both high-risk pressure ulcers and the use of physical restraints.”  Dr. Bradley added, “The continuous quality improvement activities throughout the organization were instrumental in driving the rates of improvement for the quality measures and in enhancing the quality of life of the residents they serve.”

“We are proud to be recognized for the quality healthcare that our experts provide for our residents.  The employees, the medical staff and the Board are working to provide superior medical care for Sullivan County for many years to come,” said Steve Ruwoldt, Catskill Regional Medical Center CEO.

With more than 20 years of experience in health care quality improvement and evaluation, IPRO holds major contracts with state and federal governments to review the cost and quality of services provided to Medicaid recipients, Medicare beneficiaries, and patients enrolled in managed care organizations and to support the health care community in improving those services.

Licensed for 164 acute beds, CRMC is the sole hospital provider in Sullivan County and plays a critical role in caring for the residents of the region.  CRMC provides services at its campuses in Harris and Callicoon and at its family health centers in Harris, Ferndale , Monticello and Wurtsboro.  Focused on providing the highest quality care, CRMC has recently added a new MRI and a dedicated emergency response helicopter; remodeled its CCU, and renovated its state-of-the-art Birthing Center to offer the best possible environment to welcome a new life into the world.  Catskill Regional’s Cancer Program holds the highest rating of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.  For more visit www.crmcny.org.
