HRHCare celebrates Health Center Week ‘13

Senator Terry Gipson reads to children during HRHCare’s celebration of National Health Center Week at the HRHCare Health Center in Poughkeepsie on August 12th.

POUGHKEEPSIE - HRHCare celebrated National Health Center Week 2013 (NHCW) with a Reach Out and Read story time with New York State Senator Terry Gipson on Monday, August 12th at the HRHCare Health Center located at the Family Partnership Center, 29 North Hamilton Street, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The event was held as part of a week-long campaign to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s Health Centers as local solutions for affordable and accessible health care. A bright spot in America’s health care system, Community Health Centers have been in existence for over 45 years and have compiled a significant record of success by:

• Reducing income and ethnic health disparities nationwide, even in the poorest and most challenged communities

• Producing $24 billion in annual health system savings

• Reducing unnecessary hospitalizations and unnecessary ER visits

• Generating a system of preventive medicine that patients use regularly to stay healthy, thus saving lives.

The theme for NHCW 2013 is "Celebrating America’s Health Centers: Transforming Health Care in Our Local Communities," which underscores how health centers go beyond the reach of medicine to not only prevent illness, but address the factors that cause it. For instance, poor nutrition, unemployment, stress, or housing can affect a person’s whole health.

HRHCare has been providing high quality health care to the community for 38 years; today HRHCare serves nearly 100,000 patients throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island.

"We’re committed to serving anyone & everyone in the community," said Anne Kauffman Nolon, President & CEO, HRHCare. "Whether a patient needs primary care, preventive care or specialty services, we offer comprehensive quality care. Some of our patients come to us from the time they are born until they have kids and their kids have kids. We have the privilege of caring for them through every stage of their life; it’s really a beautiful thing to see."
