White Plains - Record numbers of chocolate lovers and foodies from near and far are expected at the upcoming Chocolate World Expo, which returns to the Westchester County Center in White Plains, on Sunday, November 7th, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Visitors will have a chance to taste, purchase, celebrate and otherwise indulge in delicious gourmet chocolates, as well as a wonderful array of baked goods, specialty foods, ice cream, cheeses, wines and much more at the show.
With over 50 vendors, Chocolate World Expo is one of the largest retail chocolate shows in the U.S. Participating vendors this year include Oliver Kita Fine Confections, Gourmetibles, Dutch Desserts, Chocolations, Caveman Cookies, Dina’s Organic Chocolates, Gnosis Chocolate, NibMor, Odyssey Chocolates, Lucas Candies and The Chocolate Box NYC.
Over ninety-percent of Chocolate World Expo’s vendors are based in New York State, thereby ensuring that products are the freshest possible, while also promoting small, family-owned businesses and keeping jobs in local communities. The show, which features a number of farms including Breezie Maples Farm from the Cooperstown area and Burt’s Mountain Honey from Windham in the Catskills, is literally a chocolate "farmer’s market" because it receives a "Farm Market" designation from the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets.
Although Chocolate World Expo has an emphasis on locally-produced foods, several well-known European chocolate makers will also be represented at the show including Camille Bloch, Elizabeth Shaw and Rademaker. Wine tastings and sales, another highlight of the show, will be offered by Glenora Wine Cellars, Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery, Cherry Knoll Farm and Westchester’s very own Prospero Winery.
In addition to being decadent and delicious, recent studies confirm that dark chocolates, eaten in moderation, can offer significant health benefits, so a number of vendors at Chocolate World Expo plan to offer dark chocolate options. To suit a variety of other dietary needs and tastes, certain vendors will also feature all-natural, organic, raw, vegan, fair trade, dairy-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, low-glycemic, kosher and/or ethnic-style choices.
"Plan a getaway to Westchester and experience the delectable world of chocolate," said Kim Sinistore, Director, Westchester County Tourism, "Many of our top celebrity chefs and restaurants offer delicious creations guaranteed to delight chocolate lovers. Chocolate World Expo is the ‘icing on the cake’ and can be part of a very special chocolate-centric weekend."
