Barbara Baker Baylor and Derek Wilson are both on just-completed dates with Pop Star Whitney Houston on her "Nothing But Love" Tour in Japan, Australia and Korea. Baylor acts as Ms. Houston’s wardrobe person and Wilson as her Production Office Manager. Neither is new to the entertainment industry - Derek, who was born and Newburgh but now resides between Poughkeepsie and Atlanta, has worked with Usher, "The Godfather of Soul" James Brown, Luther Vandross, and on countless award shows and off-Broadway touring productions. Baylor has traveled the states with countless theatrical productions as Wardrobe Manager for several award-wining entertainers such as Lenny Williams, Christopher Williams, Jackee Harry (of 227 Fame), Telma Hopkins (Tony Orlando & Dawn), Richard Roundtree, and Regina Belle, just to name a few. This is not the first time that Wilson and Baylor have joined forces on a production, they also worked and toured together with Luther Vandross.
Wilson, who has been with the Houston camp since the early 90s, says "the experience for me has been such a rewarding one personally and professionally. Whitney and her entourage are so humble and have such amazing spirits. They assure and take extra effort to make it comfortable for staff with the hectic travel scheduled and make it like a second family, a second home."
"I get overjoyed when Houston receives the accolades she deserves, but on the other hand disappointed when folks report not knowing the real story" said Wilson of his experience with the Ms. Houston. The tour heads to London, Paris and Milan in two weeks.
Baker-Baylor and Wilson most recently joined forces on a local theatre piece that the Southern Dutchess Coalition presented called "Walk Don’t Ride." Wilson still continues work with his local team PMG, and Baylor with her theatrical company UPATT.
"I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world and work with the top leading professionals in the world" says Wilson. "I would like to continue to be a vessel so that more talented people in or county have opportunities in the arts to reach their goals, whether it be in front or behind the cameras. I think at this stage in my life that’s where I would be happy professionally.
