Newburgh - During the month of January, visitors to City Hall, 83 Broadway, can enjoy photographs by Lisa Stivers and A. Joyce Roorda.
The Orange County residents have captured both the every-day and the unusual in their works which range from beautiful landscapes to a quirky take on an old boat.
Although she was accepted to art school, Lisa Stivers, originally from upstate N.Y., chose a different career path. She continued to enjoy taking photographs, finding her subjects in "the oddest places," she said. Some she found while hiking in the woods, others while on rural country roads or in the middle of major cities. She also enjoys taking photographs of pets.
"My work is as diverse as I am," she commented.
Joyce Roorda, a lifelong resident of Orange County, discovered its beauty while traveling through its many towns and villages. Her landscapes "reflect calm and serenity in an often restless and turbulent society," she said. "Sometimes we get so involved in our job and our personal life that we fail to notice the beauty that is all around us and we need to reach out for the spiritual things in life."
Her strong 20-year background in the graphic arts is evident in the balance and form of her landscapes. Joyce uses a Pentax 35 mm single lens reflex and sometimes an Olympus digital camera.
