“Artists’ Choice” Exhibit and Sale

Newburgh - Summertime in Downing Park is always special. The July calendar includes two annual events, the Downing Park Planning Committee (DPPC) Cocktail Party on Saturday the 19th and the Newburgh Symphony Orchestra concert on Saturday the 26th. And now the DPPC has added a very special art event to the calendar…an Artists’ Choice Exhibit and Sale which consists of the work of artists who have had solo exhibits in the Visitors Center in the past. Because of the diversity of media, there will be something to please all art patrons. The exhibit includes oil paintings, pastels, photography, watercolors, collage, and graphics.

This is an event not to be missed! It is an opportunity for the community to revisit some of the wonderful art that has been exhibited monthly since the Gallery opened three years ago. Each of the participating artists has selected a work to be displayed, and set a price for it. When the work is sold, the sale amount will be shared equally by the artist and the DPPC, whose share will be used to sustain its work in the park, currently Greenhouse Restoration.

Some of the participating artists are MaryAnn Neumann, Susan Minier, Florence Benzakein, Ronnie Brown, Paula Pearl, Marian Kent, Tom Knieser, Leslie Waxtel, Susan Fink, Joel McKible, Karl Volk, and others.

The Artists’ Choice exhibit can be seen from July 9th through July 30th in the Visitors Center Gallery, located in the Shelter House in Downing Park, Carpenter Avenue and Third Street, Newburgh. Visitors who value original art will have the opportunity to purchase one or many of the exhibited works during Gallery hours throughout the duration of the show, but are asked to leave purchased work until July 30th. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. An Opening Reception will be held on Sunday, July 13th from 2 to 4 p.m. This is an ideal time to shop, as well as to meet some of the artists. For information call 845-565-5559.
