Howland Cultural Center bus trip

Beacon - Another special and very interesting day trip to an outstanding museum is on the calendar at the Howland Cultural Center. On Wednesday, July 23, 2008, the Center will sponsor a bus trip to the New York State Museum in the State’s capital, Albany. This museum is unusual in that it offers the public a diversity of attractions which encompass art, history, photography, collections, and perhaps above all, an education for each visitor of the New York story: its ancient life and its development and growth right on up to modern times.

The art show is a special exhibition of selected highlights from the Museum of Modern Art’s collection of Latin American and Caribbean Art. There are exhibits and collections ranging from geological findings, The Adirondack Wilderness, Birds of New York, a full size carousel (made between 1912 & 1910), historic fire fighting vehicles, Native Peoples of New York, Windows on New York (different regions of NY) Black Capital: Harlem in the 20’s- art & culture of the Harlem Renaissance, 19th century, The World Trade Center: Rescue, Recovery, Response, and much more.

The museum also has a Café, perfect for a coffee break or lunch, and a gift shop which carries everything from jewelry (made by New York artists) to postcards & everything in between.

An air-conditioned motor coach will leave Beacon promptly at 9:00 a.m. and return to Beacon at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Anyone interested in registering for the trip may call the Howland Cultural Center at 831-4988 for further information. Since seating is limited, it is necessary to respond quickly.
