WORTH THE WAIT will Debut at the NFA

NEWBURGH - WORTH THE WAIT will debut at the Newburgh Free Academy, located at 201 Fullerton Avenue on Saturday, June 14 at 7:30 PM.  The play boasts a star-studded cast including Todd Bridges, (Diff'rent Strokes, Everybody Hates Chris and TruTV Presents) Katlynn Simone (“Brit Brat” of The Game, National Recording Artist) and Lillie Bryant-Howard (Dick Clark's Swan Records recording artist “Lucky Lady Bug”, “La Dee Dah”, "Smokey Grey Eyes", "I'll Never Be Free" and “The Gambler” and local Community Activist/Advocate), along with the dance mastery of  the Newburgh Performance Arts Center (NPA) dance ensemble “Expressions”, along with the James Brown Family Performing Arts Center (JBFPAC)’s Theatre Ensemble, as they bring to life a gripping stage play you can’t miss! This adaptation of Pamela R. Smiths WORTH THE WAIT depicts the adversities today’s teens face and how they respond to their daily challenges.

WORTH THE WAIT is a vital piece, a play that pulls no punches about teen sexuality in society today.  It cries out with passion of the dangers that are associated with risky behaviors and choices;  unplanned pregnancies along with the most  deadly being the HIV- AIDS virus.

High school drop-out, teen pregnancy and cases of sexually transmitted diseases rates are at an all-time high in Dutchess and Orange County, NY.  Drug related crimes committed by youth have been reported more than ever in recent years. Alarmingly, Poughkeepsie, NY is rated 79 of the top 100 worst cities to live in the United States and Newburgh is listed at number 10!  Collaboratively, we can make a difference!

With this in mind, this production’s cast of WORTH THE WAIT is answering the call to area youth dedicating months of preparation and commitment, and gathering to invite this project to be presented to their peer community. These youth, living through the very daily struggles we speak about, feel that WORTH THE WAIT will give a relevant voice to the issues; a strong voice that youth and adults alike will have no choice but to hear and take heed.

The James Brown Family Performing Arts Center (JBFPAC)a New York based subsidiary of the James Brown Family Children Foundation (BFCF), along with the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh, the Urban United Performing Arts Think Tank (UUPATT) and PMG International Inc., take great pride in presenting WORTH THE WAIT, a drama set in the early 2000’s, but tells a story that’s just as relevant today as it was over a decade ago!
