Karpeles Museum will feature Armand Assante

“Clown”, a painting by artist Armand Assante, will be one of the works on display at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum in Newburgh, NY beginning on April 4th and running through May 31, 2013.

NEWBURGH - One of the most distinguished artists in the Hudson Valley, Armand Assante is a long-time resident of Cornwall. His work, covering a wide range of themes and subjects, has been exhibited at the Benedetti Gallery in New York City and is represented by S.P.Q.R. Fine Art, a renowned New York City art publisher and broker.

A master of layout, design, and illustration as well as a copywriter, Assante had a long, successful career in advertising, serving as advertising manager for national and international companies and as a free-lance. In the fine arts he studied with the renowned German artist Hubert Landau, and his paintings demonstrate both a technical mastery and a distinctively personal perception and response to his subjects. His sensitive and sensual nudes, serene landscapes, and elegantly composed still lifes display a creative imagination incorporating echoes of such diverse masters as Cézanne, Matisse, Velázquez, and El Greco. Although influenced by the French post-impressionists, his distinctly modern work reflects his own personal vision; it is identifiable with no school but reflects a free interpretation of what he sees.

Assante’s paintings have been exhibited at the Lycian Center in Sugar Loaf and shown in major solo exhibitions at Eisenhower Hall at West Point. In 1960 he founded the Arts Federation of Orange County, of which he was the first president. The exhibition of his paintings at the Karpeles Museum includes a wide representation of his work.
