By Reneé Ruwe & Ed McCarthy BEARSVILLE - Larry Hoppen, singer and lead guitarist of million-selling rock group Orleans, passed away recently. To celebrate his talent, Hoppen’s friends from the music world recently got together at the Bearsville Theater to honor their friend. Among those who performed was former Congressman and fellow Orleans bandmate John Hall, John Sebastian (The Lovin’ Spoonful) Happy Traum, Robbie Dupree and Larry’s two brothers, Lance and Lane Hoppen. Also in attendance was Johanna Hall, who co-wrote the groups hits.
For many years, Orleans utilized Woodstock as their base of operations. Larry’s fine tenor voice and guitar work can be heard on the mega Orleans hits “Still the One”, “Dance with Me”, and “Love Takes Time”.
Larry performed last year at the Bearsville Theater as part of long-time friend Robbie Dupree’s band. The group was joined on stage by area resident Jimmy Fallon of late night TV fame. |
