NEWBURGH - Through the month of August, visitors to City Hall can enjoy photographs and paintings by Amelia “Mimi” Russe.
Russe presents familiar views of the Hudson River and surrounding landscapes from her unique perspective.
A Newburgh native, she was born at St. Luke’s Hospital, educated at St. Mary’s School and North Junior High School, and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy. “The Hudson River has been a part of my life and my parent’s life. It always brought a great deal of pleasure to the eye and relaxation,” said Russe. “I was the family member who always took the pictures. Someone made a comment that I probably had more pictures of cakes for special occasions than anyone else they knew.”
Her interest in photography and painting came together when she was “sidelined” from a work-related injury in 2006 and could not return to her job. After months of rehabilitation, she took painting lessons at a local Senior Citizen Center. Her photographs often provided subject matter for her paintings. |
