West Point - On Saturday, June 16th at 7:00 p.m., the West Point Band’s Jazz Knights will present their second annual Jazz Composers Forum Concert at the Falcon Jazz Club in Marlboro, NY.
The Jazz Knights Composers Forum is a three-day workshop intended to encourage new music composition for large jazz ensemble and to offer experienced writers the chance to explore their craft under the guidance of a revered jazz composer/arranger, with a live rehearsal band. The Jazz Knights are excited to announce that internationally acclaimed composer and band leader Darcy James Argue will serve as guest moderator for the 2012 Jazz Knights Composers Forum. This year’s concert will feature the music of Darcy James Argue, as well as the three participants chosen for this year’s Jazz Composers Forum.
Brooklyn-based composer/band leader Darcy James Argue is one of the most talked about musicians in jazz thanks to the phenomenal response to Infernal Machines, his 2009 debut recording featuring his 18-piece big band, Secret Society. That response has included a series of features in jazz and non-jazz publications alike: Best Debut honors in the prestigious Village Voice Jazz Critics Poll, and nominations for both the 2010 Juno and 2010 Grammy Awards. In June 2010, he won both Up & Coming Artist and Large Ensemble of the Year at the Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Awards in New York. A few months later, he topped the Big Band Rising Star, Composer Rising Star, and Arranger Rising Star categories in the 2010 DownBeat Critics Poll.
