February 22nd, 2012 Caine Mutiny Court-Martial to be directed by Le Fever
Poughkeepsie - Theatre pioneer and trailblazer Dr. Rodney K. Douglas, producing the two-act play The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial from his sick bed, recently announced that veteran stage actor John Le Fever, will be taking over the director’s chair for the play, which is based on Herman Wouk’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “The Caine Mutiny.” The play runs for only four performances from Friday, February 24th through Sunday, February 26th at The Cunneen Hackett Theatre, located at 12 Vassar St. in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Wouk’s novel covered a long stretch of time aboard the USS Caine, a Navy minesweeper in the Pacific. It begins with Willis Keith’s assignment to the Caine, chronicles the mismanagement of the ship under Philip Francis Queeg, explains how Steve Maryk relieved Queeg of command, gives an account of Maryk’s court-martial, and describes the aftermath of the mutiny for all involved. The play covers only the court-martial itself. Like jurors at a trial, the audience knows only what various witnesses tell of the events on the Caine.
Le Fever, who will be making his directorial debut with The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, states, “I have been learning the ropes since 1964 and have been acting in The Mid-Hudson Valley for over twenty years.” He has appeared in The Man Who Came to Dinner by Kaufman & Hart, and A Lie of the Mind by Sam Shepard, among others. Le Fever has appeared on stages such as The Rhinebeck Center for The Performing Arts, The Ancram Opera House, River Arts and Performing Arts in Woodstock, and The Egg in Albany, among other venues. |
