NRC members take part in Triangular Sculling Regatta

Dajour “Soup” Fisher competes with Jobany “Chico” Calderon.

POUGHKEEPSIE - On July 27, 2013, members of the Newburgh Rowing Club traveled to the Hudson River Rowing Association Boathouse in Poughkeepsie, NY for the Triangular Sculling Regatta.

James Zucco, a 6th grader at New Paltz Middle School, took first place in the Boys’ U12 1x Category. Luke Sendelbach, of Beacon High School, and Captain of the NRC Boys’ Competitive Team, beat out seven highly-seasoned Poughkeepsie scullers to take second place in the coveted Boys’ Heavyweight 1x category.

"I am very proud of all of our kids, they did excellent," said Coach Ed Kennedy, Director of Programs at the Newburgh Rowing Club. "Many of our kids just learned to scull this summer, and a lot of our kids are here on scholarship. For young Zucco, this was his first rowing competition ever. We went up against some of the best scullers in the area. The Poughkeepsie rowers have been together for a long time and practice daily. It was a privilege just to keep up with them, and for Zucco and Sendelbach to pull off the big wins was impressive. I am very proud of all of our rowers, they did great."
