NEWBURGH - on May 28, 2013, the Newburgh Rowing Club hosted the Orange-Ulster County Rowing Championship, which was won by the NFA Crew Team.
"This Regatta was originally scheduled for Greenwood Lake but had to be re-scheduled due to water conditions," said Coach Ed Kennedy, Programs Director for the Newburgh Rowing Club and NFA Crew Team Head Coach. "Newburgh was delighted to step in and host the Orange and Ulster County rowers, all of whom rowed like champions. It rained throughout this after-school meet but the rowers were unaffected. Rowers know, there is no such thing as a rain date in crew."
"It was very exciting, it was a very close meet," said Coach Kennedy. "NFA pulled it out, beating the Kingston Tigers by 1 point. This is the 9th year in a row that NFA has won this Championship, we have taken it 14 out of the last 15 years."
"The Newburgh Rowing Club athletes, who row in a different division from NFA, also did great," said Coach Kennedy. They showed me a lot of heart and I see tremendous promise for the future. Keep an eye on Newburgh, it’s only going to get better."
The NFA Crew Team is the only 100% community funded varsity team at NFA, and recently competed in Sectionals in Poughkeepsie, NY.
