NEWBURGH – On September 23, 2012, the Newburgh Rowing Club hosted the Second Annual Great 5-Mile Kayak Challenge, to raise money for its Learn to Row Youth Rowing programs and Student Ambassador Rowing Scholarship programs, aimed at teaching underserved youth residing in the City of Newburgh the sport of rowing. About 40 kayaks went out, in a combination of singles and doubles. The event was attended by well over 100 people.
“We had a great turnout, and it was a perfect day for kayaking on the Hudson River,” said Coach Ed Kennedy, NRC Programs Director. “My favorite part was probably seeing one of our top Student Ambassadors, Dajour Fisher, who started with us through the scholarship program a year ago, medal in the extremely competitive Boys’ Youth category. That just brought everything full circle.”
Casey Baker and Kyle Britton had the top time for the NRC with 1:01:50 (one hour, one minute, 50 seconds). |
