August 22nd, 2012 Fabulous Fillies Day benefits cancer research
SARATOGA SPRINGS - The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) recently celebrated Fabulous Fillies Day at Saratoga Race Course on the eve of the running of the Grade 1 Alabama, Saratoga’s signature stakes race for 3-year-old fillies. All fans who wore pink received free admission to the race course.
The first 1,000 women (ages 16 and older) through the admission gates received a cubic zirconia. Each was directed to bring her stone to one of two representatives from Northeastern Fine Jewelry on track to determine if she is a recipient of a genuine diamond. The woman who received the genuine diamond was given the opportunity to select from one of three Hearts on Fire diamond pendants, the world’s most perfectly cut diamond, valued at up to $7,000. Fabulous Fillies Day will featured a number of special events and activities designed to honor women of the thoroughbred industry while raising funds to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
NYRA carded an all-filly racing program in concert with the day’s theme. Pink ribbons and flowers adorned the track, including a pink flower blanket on the horse statue in the Paddock.
Ladies were invited to make a grand entrance on a red carpet leading up to the admission gates at Union Avenue and the Clubhouse. Track patrons had the opportunity to commemorate the day with a professional photograph against the backdrop of one of several Saratoga scenes.
French Mountain Commons & Log Jam Outlet Center randomly distributed 1,000 pink drawstring bags featuring the Fabulous Fillies Day logo and containing coupons to the outlet center in Lake George to fans throughout the day.
Women were treated to pink hair extensions and pink polish from Complexions Spa & Salon at the Saratoga Style tent with proceeds benefitting BCRF. Patrons were also able to purchase a pouch of pink-foiled horse medallions from Saratoga Sweets, located near the Jockey Silks Room, with proceeds benefitting BCRF. Pink wristbands were distributed to fans inside the gates with a donation to BCRF.
The centerpiece of the day-long affair was the Sizzling Hot Pink Saratoga Hat Luncheon to benefit BCRF in the At the Rail Pavilion. This year’s luncheon was held in memory of BCRF Founder and Chairman Evelyn H. Lauder and honored thoroughbred owner and breeder Virginia Kraft Payson. The event was emceed by Jeannine Edwards from ESPN. |
