July 4th, 2012 NFA Varsity Crew Team reinstated for next year

NEWBURGH - On June 27, 2012, the Newburgh Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a resolution to re-instate the Newburgh Free Academy Boys and Girls Varsity Crew teams, which had 72 members this past season, for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.
The reinstatement is contingent upon the Newburgh Free Academy Varsity Crew teams funding themselves, which both the teams’ supporters and coach Kennedy say they are well prepared to do.
“We are very pleased that the Board of Education and the athletes, parents, and supporters of the crew team could work together to find a solution,” said Varsity Head Coach Ed Kennedy.
The parents and supporters are establishing a not-for-profit organization which will raise funds to meet the Crew team’s 2012-2013 budget, said Coach Kennedy.
At the end of the meeting, Varsity Crew Team member and rising senior Jessie Dennis got up before the Board and conveyed a simple but all encompassing message:
“Thank you,” said Miss Dennis. “You have no idea how much this means to us.” |
